GENERAL INFORMATION
ALL STUDENTS ARE REQUIRED TO COMPLETE ACADEMIC REGISTRATION ON THE DATES SPECIFIED FOR EACH FACULTY. • Those with financial clearance may register on-line should this be available for their Faculty and programme of study. • All other students MUST present themselves in person at the registration venue on the specified dates. This includes those students who do not yet have financial clearance. • New students must have paid their R500.00 acceptance fee on their offer in advance and a further R2500.00 to make up the initial deposit of R3000.00 - which becomes part of your tuition Fees. • Students without financial clearance must complete the academic registration form but their registration will not be complete until such time as they are cleared financially. FINANCIAL CLEARANCE ( Refer to the student fees booklet for further details) • Students, who have paid the required initial deposit of R3000.00 and have cleared any outstanding fees from the previous year, will have financial clearance, provided this has been done sufficiently in advance of the day of registration. • Students, who are funded by Financial Aid, Scholarships, Bursaries or other funders and have met the requirements outlined below, will have financial clearance. • A student who is financially needy may apply for R500 of the R3000 registration deposit to be deferred for 1 month until 5 March 2010, provided that: o no outstanding fees from previous years are owing; and o R2500 has been paid and reflects in the students fee account Application forms and full details can be obtained from the offices of Student Academic Administration, Deputy Deans of Students, Student Financial Services, Student Fees, Cashiers and registration venues. • For self-funded students, financial clearance is given automatically and does not need to be applied for, provided the required amount has been paid, cleared by bank and credited to the students account. This is not an instantaneous process and various clearance periods apply as described in the next section. To avoid delays, please ensure that payments are made sufficiently in advance of registration
SELF - FUNDED STUDENTS The following payment options are available: • Direct deposit payable into University of KwaZulu-Natal Bank Account. Fee clearance will be automatically affected on the day the bank transfers the deposit to the University Bank Account (normally 3 full working days after the deposit date). • Internet deposit payable into University of KwaZulu-Natal Bank Account. Fee clearance will be automatically affected on the day the bank transfers the deposit to the University Bank Account (normally 5 full working days after the deposit date). • Cash/Cheques payable to University of KwaZulu-Natal and presented to the Cashier. Fee clearance will be automatically affected within the hour. • Credit Card payments can be made at the university Cashier, or fax full details to 031 2607641 in which case fee clearance will be automatically affected after 48 hours. NB: Deposit slips will not be accepted as proof of payment.
FINANCIAL AID STUDENTS Loans • Automatic clearance will apply to students who have been awarded NSFAS funding. Lists of these students will be posted at the Student Funding Centre, D Block, Westville campus, from 18 January 2010. Refugee students are required to collect and return completed loan documents to the Student Funding Centre before registration clearance will be processed.
Bursaries and Scholarships from UKZN • An award equal to or greater than the minimum required deposits will allow automatic clearance.
Sponsored Students • A letter from the sponsor, confirming the funding, addressed and payable to the University of KwaZulu-Natal, must reach the Student Funding Centre Offices well in advance prior to registration.
Bank Loan Students • Original Bank letters, confirming the amounts of the loan, payable directly to the University of KwaZulu-Natal must be presented to the Student Fees Office. • Where bank makes payment directly to student, the full registration deposit is required.
IMPORTANT NOTES Please bring the following documentation and items with you for registration: • Identity document / passport. • Study permit and proof of Medical Insurance if you are not a South African citizen. • Your original Matriculation certificate if it has not been submitted to the Faculty previously.
INTERNATIONAL STUDENTS • All international students are required to produce valid passports, study permits and health insurance to the International Student Office in the Asoka Theatre next to the Comsa Lounge before proceeding with academic registration. A certificate of clearance will then be issued to them to proceed with registration. • Monday 25 and Tuesday 26 January 2010 - Airport/Arrival/Pick-up and Welcome at Durban International Airport and Durban Bus Station by the International Student Office and escorted through University transport by International Student Guides to the relevant campus accommodation sites. • Wednesday 27 January 2010 - Shopping/exchange of monies/banking/mail/computer access. • Thursday 28 January 2010 - International Orientation for all categories of students will take place in the Asoka Theatre next to Comsa Lounge. • Friday 29 January 2010 - Registration of all international students. • Registration for international students would be done during the mainstream registration from the 01 February 2010 to 05 February 2010. • IT IS COMPULSORY FOR EVERY INTERNATIONAL STUDENT TO CARRY A PROOF COPY OF THEIR ACADEMIC FEES PAID THAT IS REQUIRED AS PER THE FEES BOOKLET.
RISK MANAGEMENT SERVICES STUDENT ID CARDS: 1st year Students ALL Faculties On completing your academic registration you will be issued with an Acknowledgement of Registration slip by the Faculty Officer, which together with your ID Document must be presented to Risk Management Services before a Student ID Card can be issued. Returning Students ALL Faculties On completing your academic registration, present your Acknowledgement of Registration slip together with your Student ID Card to Risk Management Services for revalidation and updating. During registration, student ID cards will be issued from the Ground floor : Main Hall Please note that failure to complete the university s registration procedures by not obtaining or validating your student ID card by the close of the official registration period will attract an R240.00 penalty. A charge of R30.00 is levied for the replacement of any or damaged ID Card.
STUDENT AND VISITORS PARKING: The following areas may be used: New Students Parking, Outer Ring Road parking, and Ash Parking.
STUDENT HOUSING The residences will be open from the 29th January 2010 (Friday) for first year students undertaking pre university activities and they will be allocated to their respective rooms. Returning students will be allowed to occupy their rooms from 24th January 2010 (Sunday). Students who have not paid their registration fees prior to the date of registration: Students who have not paid their registration fees prior to the date of registration are required nevertheless to attend academic registration. They will only complete step 1 below. Steps 2-3 will be completed once financial clearance has been obtained. Step 1: Proceed to the appropriate Faculty venue (see below) to collect rand complete registration forms and obtain Deans approval of curriculum. Hand the form in at Faculty data capture. Step 2: After successful data capture of registration information, proceed to the Ground Floor of M H Joosab Hall (Main Hall) to update and collect student ID card Step 3: After completion and update of ID cards those returning students requiring residence who have reference numbers, and all 1st year students selected by admission officers, are requested to proceed to G-Block for Residence registration.
